colors in fruits and vegetables
Facts About the Colors of Fruits and Vegetables That You Should Know
As per the USDA's Food Guide Pyramid, we should be targeting 2-4 servings of fruit and 3-5 servings of vegetables daily. However, seldom do we find any mention of the type of those fruits and vegetables. Do the different colors in these items matter, or are they only decorative in nature? The fact of the matter is that the various nutrients in these food items, give them their characteristic color. So, let us analyze what these different colors in the various Fruits and vegetables indicate.
Blue/ Purple:
Various Fruits and vegetables, like egg-plant, Blueberries, plums, and raisins can be found with a blue to purple hue. The color Blue or Purple is due to phytonutrients known as anthocyanins, (which is a flavonoid) present in these items. Plants produce these phytonutrients to protect themselves against attacks from insects and damage from UV light. (2) These phytonutrients also are advantageous to us in promoting health and preventing diseases. Studies have also found that they are effective in the control of obesity. (3, 4, 5) This group also contains carotenoids, Vitamin C, Fiber and ellagic acid. All these are antioxidants, and anti-cancer agents.(6)
Green:
Spinach, Broccoli, Wheat grass, Kale and Brussel sprouts to name a few display their green color, due to the presence of the green pigment Chlorophyll. This pigment is known to absorb light in the red and blue parts of the light spectrum and reflects the remaining which is mostly green. Thus these items appear green. (7) Chlorophyll has been known for promoting human health and prevention of diseases. (8) Also, there are two carotenoids present in green foods, which are Lutein and zeaxanthin. These carotenoids act as antioxidants in the human eyes and skin. (9, 10, 11)
Red:
The red color in certain fruits and vegetables are due to the presence of lycopene, which belongs to the carotenoids group. Thus, tomatoes, apples, strawberries, beet and pomegranates, display their red color. Lycopene has been found to reduce the risk of cancers of the prostate, pancreas and to a certain extent, of the stomach. But further studies need to be done in this area. Lycopene is thought to protect against oxidation damage, especially due to ultraviolet light exposure and tobacco smoke. (12, 13, 14)
Yellow/ Orange:
Yellow and Orange fruits and vegetables get their color from lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids. These also contain antioxidants like Vitamin A and C. Oranges, mangoes, yellow peppers, lemons, pineapples, pumpkin have good quantities of these beneficial substances.
If we look at bell peppers (or Capsicum Annuum), they start out green and require more time on the plant itself to ripen to yellow, orange and red. Thus the red, orange and yellow variety are usually more expensive. Lutein and zeaxanthin carotenoids are known for their role in age-related macular degeneration (AMD for short, which is basically blurring of vision due to age) and cataracts. Vitamin C is known for its prevention of oxidation damage. (15, 16, 17)
White:
Fruits and vegetables which are white in color form an important part source of key nutrients (especially fiber, potassium and magnesium), and other micro constituents. The health benefits of white color foods should not be underestimated and can increase shortfall of nutrients in our diet. Items in this category include potatoes, cauliflowers, turnips, corn, parsnips, mushrooms and onions, to name a few. (18)
Fruits and vegetables have their distinctive color due to presence of Phytochemical of varied nature. Various nutrients are present in different quantities in various foods. You should ensure that your daily diet compromises of as many colored fruits and vegetables to get a combination of the health effects.

Common Eligibility Test for SSC, Banking, Railways Exams: What are your Views?
one exam for all govt and private jobs
The Government has proposed a Common Eligibility Test (CET) for SSC, Banking, Railway Exams etc. to Rajya Sabha on 14th March 2018. This Common Eligibility Test (CET) is proposed to shortlist candidates for vacancies of Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted) and below level posts in the government jobs. This proposal is mentioned in order to bring transparency in the recruitment process. Most recently, the SSC had to recommend for a CBI enquiry into allegations pertaining to the conduct of CGL (Tier-II) Examination 2017. Such cancellation of exams is a complete waste of efforts and resources of both the aspirants and the Government and also dims the image of the Commission in the eyes of general public. Aspirants lose their precious time and effort that they have put in preparing for those exams. Go through the essential pointers of the Rajya Sabha Report no. 95 on Common Eligibility Test (CET):
1. Through this CET, the whole system would be revamped in two stages, i.e.
Tier-I i.e. a Common Eligibility Screening Test (Preliminary Test): Common Eligibility for all recruiting agencies i.e SSC, Railways, Banking, etc
Tier-II i.e. the main examinations to be conducted independently by the concerned recruiting agencies.
2. CET would be conducted at three levels:
Matriculation level
Higher Secondary (10+2) level
Graduation Level
3. For this CET, candidates have to register themselves on National Career Services (NCS) portal which will generate a unique user ID for each candidate.
4. The government has estimated the registration of around 5 crores candidates for all of the above CET levels.
5. The government proposed to conduct CET of only those exams which are conducted in only 2 languages i.e English & Hindi. This is why, in February 2019, CET of only graduation level will be conducted. Other CET level exams will be conducted when commission acquires the necessary capability to conduct exam in the 8th schedule languages.
6. The government has also proposed two years' validity of CET scores. This CET score will help candidates to appear for Tier II examinations which would be conducted independently by the respective recruiting agencies like SSC, Banking, Railways etc.
7. There may be a scope that the CET score can be used by State Government/ PSUs/ Private sectors for the recruitment of manpower.
8. This CET will be conducted by SSC and SSC's stature should be given autonomy at par with the UPSC (recommended by the committee under the chairmanship of Shri I.M.G Khan).
9. Please note that this proposal is for the year 2019. SSC 2018 exams are likely to be held as per the calendar issued by the commission.
We have provided the above information from the report no. 95 of Rajya Sabha. You can read the detailed information regarding CET from page no. 30 to 34.

फ्रांस की क्रांति - everything about french revolution in hindi -useful for ias pcs exams
The French Revolution was a revolution in France from 1789 to 1799. It led to the end of the monarchy, and to many wars. King Louis XVI was executed in 1793. The revolution ended when Napoleon Bonaparte took power in November 1799. In 1804, he became Emperor.
Before 1789, France was ruled by the nobles and the Catholic Church. The ideas of the Enlightenment were beginning to make the ordinary people want more power. They could see that the American Revolution had created a country in which the people had power, instead of a king. The government before the revolution was called the "Ancien (old) Regime".

eradicated diseases and targets for india for chsl 2018 specially-diseases eliminated from india
ERADICATED DISEASES LIST AND TARGETS OF INDIA, 2018
What is an eliminated disease??
Dowdle proposed a definition of control as a reduction in the incidence, prevalence, morbidity or mortality of an infectious disease to a locally acceptable level; elimination as reduction to zero of the incidence of disease or infection in a defined geographical area; and eradication as permanent reduction to zero of the worldwide incidence of infection.
Eradication is the reduction of an infectious disease's prevalence in the global host population to zero. It is sometimes confused with elimination, which describes either the reduction of an infectious disease's prevalence in a regional population to zero, or the reduction of the global prevalence to a negligible amount.
Eight attempts have been made to date to eradicate infectious diseases:
two successful programs targeting:
smallpox and
rinderpest;
four ongoing programs targeting:
poliomyelitis,
yaws,
dracunculiasis and
malaria;
two former programs targeting
hookworm and
yellow fever.
Five more infectious diseases have been identified as of April 2008 as potentially eradicable with current technology by the Carter CenterInternational Task Force for Disease Eradication—measles, mumps, rubella, lymphatic filariasis and cysticercosis
India has eliminated the following diseases till date:-
1)guinea worm(dracunculiasis):-February 2000
2)leprosy:-December 2005(elimination criteria 1/10000)
3 )yaws:-September 2006
4)poliomyelitis (2014)
5)neonatal tetanus (8th day disease)(2015)
Next disease to be eliminated from India kala Azar ,lymphatic filariasis
The Finance Minister announced that the government has action plans to eliminate kala-azar by 2017, filariasis by 2017, leprosy by 2018 and measles by 2020. Elimination of tuberculosis by 2025 is also targeted.
• Infant mortality rate to be cut from 39 in 2014 to 28 by 2019
• Maternal mortality rate of 100 by 2020 from 167 in 2013
• 1.5 lakh Health Sub Centres to be Health &Wellness Centres
